We will be casting for our summer musical, Once On This Island (July 22 – August 21) and the 2011 – 2012 season of six shows.

Jubilee Theatre today announced the resignation of Artistic Director Ed Smith. The resignation is effective August 31, 2010, at the end of the 2009-2010 Season.

Jubilee Theatre continues the 2009-2010 season, the company’s 29th, with One Mo’ Time – An Evening at the Lyric 1926, a rousing musical with music that celebrates Black vaudeville of the 1920s. Jubilee’s production is directed by Tyrone King with musical direction by Joe Rogers.

Jubilee Theatre continues their twenty-ninth season with the powerful and moving drama by Dr. Endesha Ida Mae Holland, From the Mississippi Delta. Holland, a noted scholar and dramatist, wrote a memoir of the same name in 1997. This powerful story chronicles her journey from poverty and prostitution in the Jim Crow South to civil rights activism, a Ph.D. and an academic career.

The season continues with Home for the Holidays, a new holiday musical by Ed Smith, Dr. Endesha Ida Mae Holland’s From the Mississippi Delta originally directed by Ed Smith in 1988, One Mo’ Time - An Evening at the Lyric Theatre in 1926 by Vernel Bagneriss, Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson, and Blues in the Night a review style musical conceived and originally directed by Sheldon Epps.

Jubilee Theatre ends its 2008-2009 Season, the company’s 28th, with Sam Shade: A Detective Musical, an original musical with music and lyrics by Joe Rogers. Directed by Tyrone King, this farce is based on the classic novels The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells and The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett.
